Engineering from the Drawing Board to the Plant Floor
Served as an Electrical and Controls Engineer contracted to provide technical direction, engineering support, and field solutions for the modernization of automated mail and package processing systems at multiple U.S. Postal Service distribution facilities.
Supported the implementation of upgraded technologies and operating methods designed to improve the speed, efficiency, reliability, and throughput of conveying, sorting, scanning, and material-handling operations.
Engineering responsibilities included evaluating existing equipment, identifying integration requirements, supporting equipment and controls upgrades, performing PLC and control program modifications, and developing practical solutions to interface new technologies with established automation systems.
A key project objective was implementing modernization upgrades within active, high-volume production environments while minimizing disruption to ongoing postal operations. Performed and supported system testing, I/O and communications verification, functional validation, troubleshooting, program optimization, and production readiness testing to ensure new and modified equipment operated reliably with existing systems.
Provided on-site technical leadership during installation, startup, commissioning, and production ramp-up, working with project teams, maintenance personnel, operators, and equipment suppliers to diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, communications, and operational issues. Following implementation, delivered operator and maintenance training, troubleshooting guidance, and production run support to facilitate effective system adoption and sustain reliable operation.
The assignments demonstrated the ability to modernize and integrate automation within existing mission-critical infrastructure, combining hands-on controls engineering, field troubleshooting, system validation, training, and operational support to improve performance while maintaining continuity of production.
