Engineering from the Drawing Board to the Plant Floor
Served as the Lead Electrical and Controls Engineer for the full-lifecycle design, integration, installation, and commissioning of an automated conveying, robotic handling, and packaging control system for a manufacturer of medical and pharmaceutical containers.
The project integrated conveying systems, packaging equipment, robotics, machine vision, barcode identification, and third-party production machinery into coordinated automated manufacturing lines.
Led the electrical and controls engineering scope from initial concept through final customer acceptance, including system architecture development, electrical calculations, component specification and procurement, control panel design, power distribution, network architecture, safety systems, instrumentation, and field interface design. Supervised control panel fabrication and electrical installation while coordinating engineering requirements with mechanical engineers, electricians, equipment vendors, robotic programmers, and other technical stakeholders.
Developed and implemented the PLC, HMI, communications, and machine-interface programming required to coordinate the production process. The system incorporated robotic applications for pick-and-place, product insertion, material handling, and palletizing, together with vision inspection, barcode identification and tracking, conveying equipment, and third-party packaging machinery. Integration required development and verification of equipment handshakes, operating sequences, permissives, interlocks, alarms, communications, and coordinated fault recovery.
Led system safety and risk assessments and supported compliance with applicable customer requirements, engineering standards, and machinery safety practices. Directed comprehensive verification and validation activities, including I/O checkout, network and communications testing, safety circuit validation, interlock testing, functional and sequence testing, robotic interface verification, FAT, and SAT.
Technical findings, project status, risks, and engineering recommendations were communicated to project stakeholders and upper management throughout execution.
During field deployment, provided technical leadership for installation, startup, system integration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and final acceptance, including supervision and coordination of electricians, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering resources. Following successful commissioning, delivered operator and maintenance training, technical documentation, troubleshooting guidance, and production support to facilitate reliable transition of the completed system into customer operations.
